Last weekend we drove to Arizona in the camper for a family reunion with my Mom's side. (However, I was the sole representative from my family!) The main event was the Tucson Rodeo where Alex competed in the Mutton Bustin' (which is a fancy name for saying he got to ride a sheep!) He was so excited and we were all ready to get cowboy'd up for the big day.
Yee-Haw!
There's just somethin' about horses kickin' up dust and chaps and boots and cowboy hats!
We all saddled up for the big day and donned our cowboy attire!
Hannah made one mighty fine cowgirl! (In her custom-made shirt and vest from Aunt Rose!)
Cowboy O! (In a hand-stitched shirt from Grandma Mamie)
Here is Hannah giving Alex a pep talk for his sheep endeavor. Advice: "Squeeze your legs really tight around it and hold it's hair and don't let go." All advice she overheard my cute cousin Allyson giving him hours earlier!
My fabulous cousin Allyson who orchestrated the whole event--Rodeo, Hoedown, awesome goody bags and all! I admire this woman so much. She is amazing!...
Here's Alex lining up with his age group...
He even got some new boots for the occasion!
Can you see the nervous smile?...
Here he goes...
He did AWESOME! He stayed on for quite a while! Many of the kids fell coming out of the gate but he got pretty far! He was in the top 3 for his age group! Who knew we had a little mutton buster in our family?!
He was so proud! He got a trophy and a sweet belt buckle! Here he is with some of his cousins who also competed! You had to be 4 to 6 years old.
So cute!
Showing off his trophy to Aunt Marsha...
Jake and Alex checking out the rodeo (also in shirts stitched by Aunt Rose)...
Karli, a bff of mine, came down from Tempe to spend the day with us! It was so fun to see her and her cute baby Kade!...
I love this girl and I miss her and it was so fun to be together!
(Please move back to California!!)
The yummy treat...
Hannah taking Owen to see the cows...
Miss Cowgirl Hannah...
Cute Karli and Kade...
Owen riding the bull...
Me and the kiddos...
Jake was so cute with Kade showing him around...
Time to go...
Fabulous day at the Tucson Rodeo!
Uncle Bob would've loved this special day and I could just picture him all dressed up and enjoying every minute. He was certainly missed through all the festivities and tearfully thought of often. He always cherished family and fun and he made one handsome cowboy! I love you Aunt Marsha and Jim and Allyson, Tony and Lynne, and Rick and Susan and all the kiddos. It was wonderful!
(Al--I failed to get a big Apgood Family shot! Will you send me what you have?)

Congrats Aggie that is so cool that you got to ride a sheep.
Love to see the events from your trip! I'm not surprised at all that Alex got a medal, that boy has talent! Also, the photo of Alex (or Jake) with his head in the crocodiles mouth brings back memories. Do you have the photo just like that with John's head in the croc's mouth at the Carters? We do if you want it. Looks like you had a blast.
Oh, that was me - Rachel!
Nice job, Aggie. Way to bust those mutton.
Where is a video of the mutton bustin'? That is my all time favorite event at the rodeo. We always talked about entering Mikkele in the Spanish Fork one, but something always came up and now she's too old. What a fun day.
that is the CUTEST ever!! congrats alex. i have not seen the little buckin' mutton in forever!!!
Great post and pictures, Annie. Thank you so much for keeping us in the Tucson loop - what a fabulous, fun weekend! Congrats, Alex! You did a great job, and it looks like your cousins did, too. We love you all so much, and can't wait for your visit next month.
Well you know I love rodeos and I especially love mutton busting, the cutest rodeo sport ever. That seems like it's right up Alex's alley - not surprised he won!!
totally love that shirt....tis cute!!
Miss you already.
Annie...It's Sue Kandell writing. I was looking at Eric's blog and flipped on to yours. Loved your pictures, and I could sure tell who your aunt was, she looks just like your Mom! We're going to be in St. George over Easter and the kids are coming. Any chance you're going to be there? It would be fun to get together with all the little kids!
